Principal Cloud Platform Engineer

As a Principal Cloud Platform Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping how cloud infrastructure is governed, automated, and delivered organization-wide with a focus on scalability, security, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and uphold policy-as-code standards that govern tagging, naming, encryption, network segmentation, and access scopes across multiple cloud accounts and subscriptions.
• Implement guardrails using advanced tools such as OPA, Sentinel, AWS Config, and Service Control Policies to monitor and prevent deviations from approved infrastructure patterns.
• Collaborate closely with security and identity teams to embed least-privilege access controls and ensure compliance and audit readiness within self-service infrastructure capabilities.
• Integrate cost control measures including budgeting, anomaly detection, and chargeback/showback mechanisms into cloud provisioning workflows.
• Lead the organization's standards and best practices for Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform and Pulumi, including the creation and maintenance of reusable versioned modules.
• Automate environmental provisioning, drift detection, and remediation processes, eliminating reliance on manual reviews to maintain policy compliance.
• Monitor evolving AI-driven tooling opportunities applicable to infrastructure automation and governance, evaluating their fit, risk, and strategic value.
• Create streamlined, guided infrastructure provisioning and deployment paths (golden paths) to empower engineers to build and operate services efficiently and securely.
• Partner with development platform teams to integrate governance standards with CI/CD, container registries, managed data services, and observability tools.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Over 8 years experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles, including leadership responsibilities driving technical direction.
• Comprehensive expertise with major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, preferably with multi-cloud exposure.
• Extensive hands-on experience managing Infrastructure as Code at scale using Terraform and/or Pulumi, including module development and workspace/state administration.
• Proven track record implementing policy-as-code and cloud governance frameworks.
• Knowledge of cloud financial operations (FinOps) and cost management tools and practices.
• Experience with CI/CD systems, container registries, and observability solutions as integrated components of platform governance.
• Familiarity or practical experience applying AI tools for infrastructure-related challenges like policy analysis and anomaly detection is a strong advantage.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to influence cross-functional teams including security, FinOps, and product engineering without direct managerial control.
• Experience mentoring engineering staff and advocating platform standards and needs in partnership with product teams.
