Principal AI Platform Engineer

About the Role

We are collaborating with a well-established technology company based in Dublin seeking a Principal AI Platform Engineer. This position is geared towards building and shaping shared AI functionalities across a large-scale engineering organization rather than integrating AI into a single product.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance reusable AI platform capabilities that allow engineering teams to adopt AI securely and efficiently.
• Develop shared LLM and AI platform services, including LLM gateways and model integrations.
• Build infrastructure for AI agents and tools.
• Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and related retrieval capabilities.
• Develop AI guardrails, ensuring security and governance compliance.
• Create evaluation and quality assurance frameworks.
• Establish reference architectures and reusable engineering patterns.
• Ensure platform observability, reliability, and readiness for production use.
• Support engineering teams in adopting novel AI technologies and methodologies.

Qualifications and Skills

• Experienced software or platform engineer with a significant background in platform development.
• Proficient in Python programming with strong hands-on experience.
• Substantial production experience working with AWS cloud services.
• Expertise in designing or building platforms or shared engineering capabilities.
• Recent practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, or AI platform technologies.
• Strong architectural understanding and solid engineering fundamentals.
• Proven track record of owning and delivering major technical initiatives.
• Capable of influencing engineers, architects, and senior leadership stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and consulting aptitude.

Preferred Technologies and Concepts

Knowledge or experience with technologies such as Amazon Bedrock, LLM gateways, AI agents, multi-cloud processing (MCP), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), evaluation frameworks, AI guardrails, AWS serverless and container services, and Infrastructure as Code practices is advantageous. Candidates do not need expertise in all listed areas but should demonstrate leadership in at least some and the resulting impact.
