About CoMade
CoMade is a strategic partner delivering mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation solutions across infrastructure, energy, resources, and mining sectors. They emphasize early mobilization of specialist resources to provide innovative, efficient solutions from project pre-commissioning through to operations phase. CoMade aims to be a leading project delivery partner known for best industry practices, supported by a strong culture and core values that recognize and reward employees who exemplify these values onsite, with clients, and in communities.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Primary HV Engineer to take ownership of high-voltage primary designs (132kV-330kV+) for complex power projects that support Australia's national energy infrastructure. This role involves leading technical solutions from concept through detailed engineering and construction, working closely with multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will provide expertise on HV/EHV substations, AIS/GIS switchgear, busbars, cables, earthing, and transmission infrastructure.
This is more than a design role; it offers a chance to influence project strategy, mentor other engineers, and contribute to landmark energy and utility projects while working in a company expanding its engineering capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of high-voltage primary systems, typically ranging from 132kV to over 330kV.
- Offer technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams, promoting technical excellence and innovation.
- Develop and validate primary designs, resolving technical challenges to meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.
- Create detailed design deliverables and technical documentation for substations, including layouts, clearance studies, earthing systems, equipment specifications (transformers, HV/EHV switchgear, surge arresters, busbars), short circuit force calculations, and lightning protection studies.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and secondary disciplines to ensure integrated design outcomes and maintain client and stakeholder communication.
- Resolve complex technical issues balancing cost, schedule, and quality.
- Drive design optimization, constructability, and implement innovative engineering solutions.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Extensive experience in HV primary design, especially substation design at 132kV or higher.
- Proven background in substation and transmission projects.
- Proficient with CAD tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or REVIT.
- Strong understanding of international standards, grid compliance, and industry best practices, including AS/NZS standards, IEC frameworks, and NSP/TNSP requirements.
- Experience working in engineering consultancies is preferred.
- Chartered status or progression towards chartered accreditation is highly desirable.
Why Join CoMade?
- Opportunity to impact a growing company with work that directly affects its success.
- Collaborative team-based environment valuing your contributions.
