Overview
The role of Preparation Technician at Sage Oil Vac involves readying product surfaces to meet stringent quality and safety standards. Collaborating closely with the production team, this position is vital in ensuring products exhibit superior appearance, durability, and finish.
Primary Duties
- Examine surfaces slated for painting to identify defects, contamination, or irregular features.
- Clean surfaces using solvents and appropriate tools; sand rough areas to achieve smoothness.
- Prepare product surfaces through cleaning, sandblasting, and power washing to guarantee optimal paint adhesion, utilizing abrasive materials, solvents, and power tools.
- Mask and tape areas to shield from paint overspray.
- Handle and mix paint components precisely following specifications.
- Set up and verify painting equipment for proper operation and safety compliance.
- Inspect finished items for adherence to quality and visual standards.
- Rectify any imperfections found in finishes.
- Conduct routine upkeep on painting and preparation equipment to keep them functional.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Comply with safety procedures when dealing with paints, solvents, and chemicals, including the usage of personal protective equipment.
- Manage inventory of solvents, sanding and washing materials, and painting supplies; communicate restocking needs to supervisors.
- Maintain detailed documentation of paint types used and surface prep methods to support quality controls.
- Transport items to drying stations and manage unloading/stacking for subsequent painting or packaging.
- Operate heavy machinery such as cranes and forklifts; apply seam sealers as required.
- Ensure daily cleaning and orderly maintenance of workspace and paint booth.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Prior experience in manufacturing painting and surface preparation is advantageous.
- Knowledge of sanding and paint preparation methods.
- Strong precision and commitment to delivering flawless finishes.
- Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Awareness and adherence to safety regulations in painting environments.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
This position requires frequent verbal communication and manual dexterity. Tasks include standing, walking, sitting irregularly, reaching, and hand use.
