About the Role
The Planning and Resource Consents department plays a pivotal role in shaping policy and planning outcomes across Auckland's urban, rural, and coastal environments. As a Policy Planner based in Auckland Central with flexible hybrid working arrangements, you will contribute actively to these environmental planning responsibilities within the Regional, North, West and Islands Planning Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert planning advice to elected members, Mana Whenua, community groups, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate in project teams on implementing national directives, preparing submissions for legislation, managing council-initiated plan changes, and processing private plan changes and notices of requirement.
- Assess and monitor the Auckland Unitary Plan as part of the complete policy planning cycle and provide input to its forthcoming review.
Candidate Profile
We seek a policy planner with a strong drive for continuous improvement and capability to handle complex planning challenges, particularly those passionate about policy, statutory, and spatial planning.
- Possess a degree or higher qualification with preferably 2 to 3 years’ experience in planning and resource management.
- Demonstrate solid knowledge of the Resource Management Act.
- Have a background in statutory planning including preparing or reporting on plan changes or reviews.
- Exhibit excellent relationship-building abilities and customer-focused service skills.
- Show understanding and respect for te ao Māori and Auckland Council's responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers a salary range of NZD 91,000 to 107,000, plus additional KiwiSaver contributions.
- Flexible and hybrid working options to support work-life balance.
- An option to purchase an extra week of annual leave.
- Access to quality professional development, mentoring, and training.
- A collaborative and supportive team culture promoting knowledge sharing.
- A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and a workplace where everyone feels valued.
