Role Overview

We seek a Platform Engineering Manager with a solid hands-on engineering foundation to lead and expand a team focused on enhancing developer experience and boosting productivity. Your leadership will emphasize AI-integrated workflows, fostering rapid, secure, and scalable software delivery. The team crafts tooling and architectural patterns that empower engineers to operate independently without deep platform knowledge, merging platform capabilities into a unified and self-service developer environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a platform engineering team while steering roadmaps for CI/CD pipelines, developer workflows, and internal tooling enhancements.
  • Create and maintain a consolidated developer portal offering clear insights, such as service performance and SLO statuses, enhancing visibility and control.
  • Oversee capacity planning and establish scalable, fitting architectural templates enabling engineering teams to deploy with confidence without needing deep platform expertise.
  • Drive the creation of AI-powered platform tools, including intelligent agent-based workflows for managing complex platform modifications and automating recurring site reliability and support tasks.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Product teams to synthesize input and prioritize impactful platform initiatives.
  • Coach engineers and technical leads, instilling a culture of accountability, inclusion, end-to-end ownership, and iterative learning where setbacks are treated as growth opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively across various stakeholders, ranging from strategic discussions to in-depth technical explanations.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of direct management experience in software engineering or technical program management, including team development and performance oversight.
  • 3-5 years of practical software development background using languages like Go or Python, focusing on internal developer platforms or productivity tools.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant infrastructure and cloud technologies such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and distributed systems to inform tooling design.
  • Experience with capacity planning and formulating self-service architecture patterns for engineering teams.
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles with the ability to translate into supportive tooling and automation.
  • Proven success leading in dynamic, fast-paced environments with an emphasis on shipping quality software and continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing or collaborating with distributed teams operating across multiple time zones.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to navigate complex technical and interpersonal scenarios calmly and thoughtfully.

AI Skills

  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools for planning, prioritization, and translating developer feedback into actionable strategies.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding environments such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor for code reviews, documentation, and technical writing.
  • Utilization of AI solutions to streamline management and program coordination tasks like updates, meeting syntheses, and communication.
  • Knowledge of large language model APIs and agent-based workflows, with the discernment to evaluate tools beneficial for team adoption.
