Role Overview

As part of the Technology team, the Platform Engineer will focus on developing and maintaining the essential backend systems that support Revolut's operations. These systems include the event store and underlying transactional frameworks that facilitate company-wide engineering efforts. Improvements and innovations made at this level positively impact multiple teams, multiplying efficiency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and scale core backend systems to support Revolut’s infrastructure.
• Write production-quality, concurrent, high-throughput code.
• Address technical challenges impacting various engineering teams.
• Conduct code reviews and assist colleagues with system architecture and design.

Essential Qualifications

• At least 7 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Proficient in Java with production-level expertise; alternatively, strong background in other backend languages such as Kotlin, Scala, Python, or Go, with willingness to use Java primarily.
• Proven experience building foundational platform components or core systems used by other development teams.
• Substantial understanding of distributed systems at scale.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Fluent in English.

Preferred Experience

• Background in fintech or other high-volume transactional sectors.
• Experience working in startup or scale-up environments.
• Hands-on production experience with event sourcing architecture.
• Contributions to open-source projects, particularly in frameworks, libraries, or developer tools.
