Role Overview

The Platform Engineer plays a vital role in the Infrastructure team by implementing and enhancing platform features such as cloud environments, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, monitoring tools, and self-service catalog components. Working alongside senior engineers, you will navigate ambiguity, deepen your technical skills, and ensure high reliability and quality in platform delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop platform components and make infrastructure modifications within your designated domain based on collaboratively created designs.
• Engage with team members to clarify requirements early, ensuring your implementation matches agreed designs.
• Employ knowledge of cloud frameworks like Cloud Adoption Framework and Well-Architected Framework.
• Adhere to and promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps processes, and CI/CD best practices; contribute reusable self-service catalog entries and pipeline templates to support an Internal Developer Portal.
• Create clean, testable, peer-reviewed infrastructure code supported by clear documentation for ease of operation and extension.
• Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles by understanding and contributing to service level indicators (SLIs) and objectives (SLOs), managing reliability-focused priorities, and reducing manual operational work (toil).
• Participate in on-call rotations, appropriately respond to incidents, and actively contribute to post-incident analyses with suggestions for improvements.
• Maintain observability for owned platform components, managing metrics, logging, and alerts consistent with team standards.
• Proactively identify issues affecting platform reliability, developer experience, or operational efficiency, bringing forward suggestions for fixing and continuous improvement.
• Stay informed about emerging platform engineering and SRE approaches and disseminate pertinent insights within the team.
• Integrate AI tools into your workflow—utilizing them for code generation, documentation, debugging, and incident management—to enhance productivity and quality, and share effective AI usage techniques with colleagues.
• Collaborate closely with senior engineers and Engineering Managers to align on priorities and design guidance, actively seek feedback, and improve the quality and impact of your contributions.
• Engage with product teams to understand platform usage, communicate usability challenges, and gather feedback to guide platform enhancements.
• Participate actively in code and design reviews both as reviewer and reviewee, embrace feedback for personal growth, and contribute to team knowledge bases including runbooks and documentation.

Required Skills and Experience

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably Microsoft Azure, along with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or equivalents.
• Familiarity with container orchestration technologies, notably Kubernetes.
• Practical understanding and application of Site Reliability Engineering principles including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, and reliability-driven prioritization.
• Strong operational skills including participating in on-call rotations and using observability tools like Grafana and Prometheus to monitor production systems.
• Solid engineering practices: writing maintainable, version-controlled code, following thorough review processes, and documenting clearly.
• Active engagement with AI development tools, demonstrating interest in leveraging these for platform engineering and operational tasks.
• A collaborative attitude, willingness to voice issues and suggestions, openness to feedback, and eagerness to grow technically. Experience working in regulated industries is advantageous.
