Phosphate PhD Chemist

Role Overview

This full-time position as a Phosphate PhD Chemist is located on-site at University College Dublin, Ireland, as part of the SINFERT team. The role involves conducting experimental investigations on mineral and organic phosphate chemistry, including the characterization and analysis of phosphate compounds and their transformation into reactive intermediates and scaling these processes beyond laboratory scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out laboratory experiments focusing on phosphate chemistry.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret various analytical data related to phosphate compounds.
• Ensure compliance with quality control measures and safety protocols in all laboratory activities.
• Maintain thorough and accurate laboratory documentation and records.
• Contribute actively to research and development projects within the team.
• Compile detailed reports and prepare publications of research findings.
• Present research outcomes at seminars and academic conferences.
• Collaborate closely with faculty, fellow researchers, and students in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Support the broader research goals of University College Dublin by engaging with innovation and disseminating results.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong practical laboratory skills with experience in chemical synthesis, reagent handling, and safe operation of laboratory apparatus.
• Expertise in analytical techniques pertinent to phosphate chemistry such as quantitative NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and other quantitative analytical methods.
• Proven track record in research and development including experimental design, data interpretation, and scientific problem-solving.
• PhD degree or near completion in Chemistry or a closely related field, specializing in organic or inorganic phosphate chemistry or chemical engineering.
• Excellent scientific writing and communication capabilities for preparing manuscripts, reports, and delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
• Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research setting, effectively managing workload and priorities.
• Familiarity with chemical research regulations, safety, and ethical standards; experience in project management or supervising junior researchers is considered beneficial.
