We are developing an upscale, urban multi-specialty clinic chain based in Bangalore, with each center staffed by approximately 10-15 doctors across various fixed and on-call specialties. Our goal is to offer seamless outpatient services, dependable diagnostics, and a patient-centered care experience.

Role Purpose

The Phlebotomist is responsible for the safe, precise, and patient-friendly collection of samples, while ensuring strict adherence to hygiene protocols, proper labeling, and timely transfer of samples to the laboratory. Additionally, this role enhances patient experience through feedback collection and close coordination with doctors and the central lab for critical result reporting and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct venipuncture and collect blood samples from adults and pediatric patients according to standardized procedures.
• Guarantee accurate labeling, barcoding, and maintain sample integrity to avoid rejections or the necessity for recollection.
• Maintain cleanliness at the phlebotomy station, monitor consumables inventory, and dispose of sharps safely.
• Inform patients about pre-test protocols such as fasting or timing requirements and provide reassurance to ease anxiety.
• Promptly report critical laboratory findings to physicians to facilitate urgent care.
• Coordinate with the central laboratory to ensure all test reports are delivered within the expected timelines.
• Work alongside lab technicians to manage routine sample processing and address exceptions like hemolysis or insufficient samples.
• Gather patient feedback through Net Promoter Score (NPS) surveys at collection or discharge points and escalate issues to improve service quality.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Possession of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or certified training in phlebotomy.
• 1 to 5 years of practical experience working within diagnostic laboratories, clinics, or hospital environments preferred.
• Proficient phlebotomy skills accompanied by empathy towards patients.
• Strong attention to detail for labeling, reporting, and following process protocols.
• Ability to manage high patient volume efficiently without compromising quality.
• Professional demeanor with calmness when dealing with pediatric or anxious patients.
• Effective communication skills to assist in collecting feedback and reporting critical lab results.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Maintain near-zero sample rejection rates due to collection or labeling errors.
• Achieve a first-attempt blood draw success rate exceeding benchmarks.
• Ensure samples are handed off to the laboratory within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Deliver immediate communication of critical lab parameters to physicians 100% of the time.
• Surpass center benchmarks in patient feedback and NPS collection.
• Consistently follow up with the central lab to ensure report turnaround times are met.
