As a Pet Groomer at our Signal Hill location, your role involves delivering expert grooming services to a variety of pets, ensuring their safety, comfort, and satisfaction through exceptional care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircutting, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland expression, following pet owner instructions and recognized breed standards.
• Operate and maintain grooming tools such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers effectively and safely.
• Constantly prioritize pet safety and well-being by monitoring for signs of distress or health issues and promptly communicating any concerns.
• Assess pets individually considering coat types, skin conditions, and behavior to customize grooming procedures accordingly.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, delivering excellent customer service, addressing questions, and providing grooming advice.
• Educate pet owners on maintenance grooming and recommend appropriate at-home care products and practices.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the grooming salon, disinfect tools and equipment regularly, and perform routine cleaning including filters, vents, and drains.
• Adhere strictly to Petco's grooming policies and standards to ensure consistent quality and safety.
• Potentially provide guidance and supervision for entry-level trainees in absence of grooming leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of Petco's Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming training or experience.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to make independent judgments utilizing grooming knowledge to solve routine to moderately complex problems.
• Strong results orientation with commitment to productivity and ownership of responsibilities.
• Detail-oriented in performing grooming services to meet high standards.
• Passion for animals with a desire to build a career in pet grooming.
• Expertise in various dog breeds, grooming needs, health commonalities, and behavior management.
• Proficient in breed-specific cut styles and grooming techniques.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with customers and team members.
• Ability to manage animals of different sizes and temperaments with empathy and care.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as per grooming center’s schedule.

Work Environment

The grooming takes place indoors within a salon environment, requiring physical activity such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for extended durations. Some tasks may involve the use of ladders or support tools for cleaning and maintenance. The workplace can be noisy and damp, involving close interaction with pets and fellow salon staff.
