Pediatrician

Role Summary

The Pediatric Specialist will deliver thorough medical care to patients from infancy through adolescence in settings including the Pediatric Inpatient Unit, general wards, and Emergency Department. Responsibilities encompass assessment, diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, admission, and ongoing patient care in line with institution policies and ministry healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage acute and general pediatric conditions in the Emergency Department.
• Provide emergency stabilization and coordinate escalation or transfer for critically ill pediatric patients.
• Make decisions regarding patient disposition such as discharge, observation, admission, or referral.
• Oversee inpatient pediatric ward patients with daily assessments, treatment planning, and follow-up.
• Lead regular ward rounds reviewing clinical progress, investigations, medication, and treatments.
• Manage a range of pediatric illnesses including respiratory, gastrointestinal, infectious, neurological, allergic, and other acute or chronic conditions within scope.
• Identify early signs of clinical deterioration and promptly initiate emergency management and escalation.
• Order and interpret lab, radiological, and diagnostic tests appropriately.
• Prescribe medications aligned with pediatric dosing standards and hospital policies.
• Provide discharge planning and clear follow-up guidance to families.
• Participate in on-call rotations including evenings, weekends, and holidays as per departmental schedules.
• Work collaboratively with other specialties including Emergency Medicine, Neonatology, nursing, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, and clinical teams.
• Communicate effectively with children and their parents or caregivers, offering education and counseling.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with institutional standards.
• Engage in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, morbidity and mortality reviews, departmental meetings, and continuous medical education.
• Support junior medical staff and multidisciplinary team members as required.
• Adhere strictly to policies on patient safety, infection control, medication safety, clinical governance, and confidentiality.

Qualifications & Experience

• Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Postgraduate specialty qualification or Board Certification in Pediatrics.
• Eligibility for Specialist licensing in Pediatrics through Qatar MoPH - Department of Healthcare Professions.
• Clinical experience post-specialization in Pediatrics as per licensing requirements.
• Recent hands-on experience managing general pediatric inpatient and emergency cases.
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) certification highly desirable.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

The ideal candidate must exhibit strong clinical judgment in managing general and emergency pediatric cases, proficiency in stabilization of emergencies, and capability to handle simultaneous clinical priorities. Communication skills for liaison with families and interdepartmental teams, and teamwork within a multidisciplinary hospital environment, are essential.
