Job Overview

The Payroll Specialist handles various critical payroll functions, involving detailed payroll processing and compliance with state and local tax regulations. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding attention to detail, strong communication and organizational capabilities, excellent customer service skills, and the utmost discretion in handling confidential information. This role also focuses on promoting consistency across payroll operations within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit new hires and employee departures recorded in Dayforce to ensure data accuracy and promptly communicate corrections to Human Resources.
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records including tax status adjustments and direct deposit details.
  • Address employee payroll queries, compute payments for contract workers, and manage off-cycle payments such as retroactive increases, final wages, and corrections.
  • Process mandated wage deductions like garnishments in accordance with legal orders.
  • Respond to employment verification requests.
  • Prepare timely union and certified payroll reports.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to, enforce, and remain knowledgeable about all company policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with payroll systems, especially Viewpoint Spectrum and Dayforce preferred; knowledge of other cloud payroll platforms such as UKG, ADP, and Workday is beneficial.
  • Understanding of federal and state wage and tax statutes affecting payroll compliance.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Problem-solving capabilities and prioritization skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Education and Experience

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, along with 4 to 6 years of payroll experience, is required.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $70,000 to $85,000 annually.
