Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Payroll Specialist is tasked with ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of payroll functions across diverse employee groups including regular staff, retirees, flight attendants, expatriates, individuals with disability-related payroll requirements, and global mobility payments. This position involves managing payroll inputs and outputs, maintaining banking details and employee payroll records, handling garnishments, executing tax-related payroll tasks, and liaising with various internal teams such as HR, Benefits, Tax, and Finance to resolve payroll issues efficiently. The role demands attention to detail, discretion in managing confidential information, and adherence to company policies and regulatory mandates. Candidates must have a reliable high-speed internet connection and a safe working environment if telecommuting is necessary.

Key Duties

  • Execute payroll processing accurately and punctually for multiple employee categories including retirees, flight attendants, expatriates, disability-related cases, and global mobility payments.
  • Examine payroll data to detect inconsistencies, validate information, and address problems before finalizing payroll.
  • Update and maintain employee payroll records, including banking information and other payroll-related details.
  • Administer payroll transactions related to disability in accordance with established protocols, deadlines, and requirements.
  • Manage garnishment procedures following all applicable standards and timelines.
  • Support payroll tax operations by reviewing data, resolving issues, and ensuring compliance.
  • Investigate and remedy payroll discrepancies involving pay, deductions, taxes, garnishments, direct deposits, disability cases, and employee data.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information and clarify payroll-related inquiries.
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with company policies, internal controls, and legal regulations.
  • Assist in payroll reconciliation, audit preparation, reporting, and year-end processes to guarantee accuracy and readiness.
  • Identify repetitive issues and process inefficiencies to contribute to the continuous enhancement of payroll quality and performance.
  • Maintain professional communication with employees, managers, and business partners regarding payroll concerns and resolutions.

  • Timely and precise payroll processing across all designated populations and functions.
  • Accurate completion of banking data updates, disability payroll, garnishments, and tax-related payroll activities with strong control measures.
  • Efficient resolution of payroll issues with consistent follow-up.

Minimum Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work and reside in Jamaica; no sponsorship available.
  • Experience in payroll processing or related payroll operations.
  • Understanding of payroll procedures, controls, and issue resolution methods.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to the United States, for training and meetings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential payroll information sensitively.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Consistent adherence to safety and security for oneself, colleagues, and personal data.

  • Minimum education requirement of high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Involvement in payroll reconciliations, audit processes, or year-end payroll operations.
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance standards and internal control frameworks.
