Job description
Position Overview
This temporary full-time role within Fanshawe College's Total Rewards Department, based in London, Ontario, is governed by Appendix D of the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement. The position is critical and extends until May 2027 with potential for renewal. It operates on a hybrid model with a strong onsite presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and accurately process regular payroll cycles for both salaried and hourly employees following established cut-off deadlines.
- Organize and review payroll documentation to confirm completeness and adherence to collective agreements, policies, legislation, and government guidelines.
- Input necessary payroll transactions not initially captured in the Workday system.
- Verify payroll calculations, adjustments, and deductions including pension, benefits, leave, retroactive pay, garnishments, and overpayments for accuracy and compliance.
- Co-ordinate payroll transmissions and reconciliations with the banking institution.
- Prepare and adjust T4 statements and create journal entries for special payroll payments.
- Issue Records of Employment as per legislative requirements and respond to related inquiries.
- Review payroll reports to ensure data integrity and implement corrective measures if needed.
- Respond promptly and professionally to employee queries regarding payroll matters, providing clear explanations and support.
- Provide employment and income verification letters when requested.
- Assist internal departments and external agencies with payroll-related inquiries and resolve issues confidentially.
- Function collaboratively in a team environment and handle additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or a related discipline, preferably with specialization in payroll or compensation.
- Certification as Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) accredited by the National Payroll Institute.
- At least three years of recent, hands-on full payroll cycle experience in a sizeable organization with multiple collective agreements.
- Strong understanding of compliance and statutory payroll regulations.
- Proven ability to professionally and discreetly resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Extensive experience with cloud-based HR/payroll systems, specifically Workday.
- Excellent analytical abilities and communication skills.
- Clear understanding of confidentiality and compliance requirements.

Work Schedule and Compensation
- Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The pay range for this position falls within Payband G, offering hourly wages between $34.60 and $39.93.
