Payroll Officer

About the Role

Join UnitingCare Queensland as a Payroll Officer and play a vital role in ensuring timely and accurate payment processing for thousands of employees. You will be an essential part of the payroll team, handling payroll transactions and supporting both employees and leadership with payroll-related queries. This position currently offers two fixed-term opportunities with various contract lengths, and supports flexible hybrid working arrangements upon agreement.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage payroll processes including employee updates, onboarding new hires, termination processing, and handling leave requests.
• Address payroll inquiries professionally and promptly, assisting employees and management across the organisation.
• Support payroll-related activities such as reconciliations, audits, and compliance adherence.
• Participate in initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and contribute to fostering a collaborative team environment.

Applicant Requirements

• Relevant experience in payroll, administration, finance, or roles involving customer service.
• A client-focused approach coupled with a genuine willingness to assist others.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills capable of building positive relationships at all organisational levels.
• Excellent attention to detail ensuring precision in all tasks.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and composure while handling employee concerns and resolving issues.
• Team-oriented mindset with eagerness to learn; proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, at an intermediate level.
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as Chris21, UKG Pro, or similar is advantageous, though training is available for candidates demonstrating strong customer service acumen and a keenness to learn.
• Ability to pass necessary pre-employment probity checks including Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, Australian Right to Work verification, and qualification verifications as applicable.
