Position Overview
The role of Payroll Officer involves being a vital part of a collaborative team, ensuring the accurate and timely payroll processing for a large workforce of approximately 4,000 employees across various community services. This position is best suited for someone with 2-3 years of hands-on payroll experience, preferably within a high-volume or larger payroll environment. The candidate will work with payroll data, employee changes, terminations, and relevant awards, focusing particularly on the SCHADS Award and CSA.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with processing high-volume payroll runs regularly.
- Handle employee data changes, payroll adjustments, and transactions.
- Calculate and execute terminations of employees’ payroll.
- Apply and interpret relevant awards, agreements, and payroll conditions effectively.
- Identify discrepancies in payroll and resolve related queries.
- Coordinate with employees, managers, and internal teams to address payroll issues.
- Maintain precise payroll records and employee information.
- Support payroll reconciliations, verification, and reporting tasks.
- Contribute positively in a team-driven environment during peak payroll periods.
Candidate Profile
- Possesses approximately 2-3 years of practical payroll experience.
- Prior payroll experience within children’s services, early education, childcare, or out-of-school-hours care is highly valued.
- Comfortable managing payroll in a busy, high-volume environment.
- Experience in larger or complex payroll teams is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Skilled in interpreting modern awards and employment conditions.
- Knowledgeable about the SCHADS Award; familiarity with CSA is a plus.
- Experienced in payroll terminations processing.
- Exposure to end-to-end payroll operations is beneficial.
- Detail-oriented with high accuracy working with payroll data.
- Effective at managing deadlines while maintaining accuracy during busy cycles.
- Strong, practical communication skills and confident interacting across organizational levels.
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to work.
- Holds or is willing to obtain a BlueCard for working with children.
