About The Role
As a Payroll Manager at Collins Foods Limited, you will oversee a skilled Payroll Team to guarantee that every payroll cycle is executed with precision, efficiency, and punctuality. The position is crucial in maintaining strong payroll processes, ensuring adherence to legislative mandates, and establishing stringent controls to mitigate risks. Beyond operational excellence, you will foster team growth through continuous training, coaching, and support, promoting a culture centered on high standards, responsibility, and ongoing enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, oversee, and manage the complete payroll schedule, ensuring adequate resourcing to meet deadlines and project demands.
- Create, apply, and monitor strong audit and quality control mechanisms to verify payroll correctness, conduct regular audits, spot discrepancies, and implement remedies.
- Identify skill gaps within the payroll team and deliver continuous educational opportunities to enhance compliance and capability.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of weekly payrolls according to approved procedures and legal standards.
- Handle end-of-period, monthly, and annual payroll tasks, including finance journal entries, superannuation payments, payroll tax, and other statutory duties with precision and promptness.
- Provide expert payroll assistance, collaborating with teams including People Advisory, IT, Finance, Planning, and Major Projects, supporting both routine and project-based tasks.
- Keep abreast of payroll laws by attending relevant trainings and industry updates, ensuring compliance and effectively communicating legislative changes to the payroll team.
- Develop and periodically test a payroll business continuity plan to assure uninterrupted payroll processing.
- Configure and validate payroll systems, procedures, and workflows to ensure conformity with legislation, awards, and company policies.
Candidate Profile
- Possess tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in payroll within large, multifaceted organizations handling high-volume payrolls supporting over 10,000 employees.
- Comprehensive experience managing weekly payroll cycles and compliance with payroll tax, superannuation, and statutory requirements.
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and sector-specific regulations.
- Proficient with payroll, workforce management, time and attendance, and HRIS platforms.
- Sound accounting knowledge linked to payroll and overall finance operations.
- Advanced Excel capabilities for data analysis, trend identification, and decision support.
- Experienced in using payroll reporting tools to generate insights and maintain compliance.
- Desirable exposure to payroll system projects such as implementations, upgrades, or transformations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Well-honed organizational and time management abilities to juggle competing priorities effectively.
- Strong commercial insight and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to develop and lead high-achieving, collaborative teams.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build trust and credibility.
