About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll Assistant to join our team based in Manchester, working in a hybrid setup within a permanent position. As part of HF, a law firm renowned for innovation and client dedication in the insurance and commercial sectors across the UK and Ireland, you'll be integral to ensuring our employee payments are handled accurately and on time.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the Payroll Manager in administering timely and precise salary payments while ensuring data integrity, compliance with relevant regulations, and addressing payroll queries.
  • Work collaboratively within a small, dynamic team focusing on payroll processing, including benefits and pension contributions.
  • Maintain close coordination with People Operations and Finance departments to deliver excellent payroll services.
  • Manage employee data by inputting updates such as new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, and variable payments.
  • Oversee payroll processing elements including verifying timesheets, handling overtime calculations, issuing bonuses, and administering statutory payments such as Statutory Sick Pay, Maternity, and Paternity Pay.
  • Generate necessary payroll reports, assist with payroll reconciliations, and ensure compliance with HMRC legislation.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee inquiries related to payroll and pensions, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong numerical proficiency complemented by advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational abilities, and discretion when managing sensitive financial and personal information.
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines while providing clear communication to colleagues regarding payroll matters.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll compliance and understanding of HMRC regulations.
