Job description

Role Overview

Brunel is looking for a Payroll Administrator to manage accurate and timely payroll processes remotely from Calgary, AB. This contract role lasts one year with possible extension and offers an hourly rate of $45 to $60.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle payroll administration including calculating gross-to-net amounts, processing payroll, issuing payments, balancing payroll, and preparing journals.
  • Prepare payroll worksheets related to new hires, terminations, leaves, returns from leave, adjustments, retroactive pay, and other employee transactions.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in payroll and timesheets to ensure correct compensation.
  • Handle timecard entries, validations, reviews, and labor charge allocations.
  • Utilize and maintain Employee and Manager Self-Service portals within Workday.
  • Monitor audit reports and administer employee records, timecard corrections, schedules, and payroll-related data updates.
  • Ensure payroll records are accurate and support compliance, audit, and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with HR and Benefits teams regarding pay and benefits issues.
  • Address payroll inquiries following privacy laws, payroll policies, and standards.
  • Promptly manage and respond to payroll inbox requests professionally.
  • Maintain positive cross-department relationships representing the payroll function.
  • Keep updated on payroll legislation, regulations, and collective agreements influencing payroll processes.
  • Contribute to system testing, process enhancements, and payroll projects.
  • Perform additional assigned duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent certification.
  • 3 to 5 years of payroll experience handling the complete payroll cycle.
  • At least 6 months experience with Workday Payroll and Workday Time Tracking modules.
  • Experience processing payroll in complex organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll system design and capabilities.
  • Familiarity with payroll legislation, compliance, and employee record management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong interest in leveraging digital tools to optimize payroll operations.
  • Understanding of payroll accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills to identify and fix discrepancies.
