Paint Lead

Overview

As the Paint Lead reporting to the Paint Supervisor, you will primarily help manage the Paint Line operations during the first shift. Your role includes hands-on work with Powder and Wet Paint Lines, guiding Paint Technicians, and ensuring the department remains organized and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Paint Supervisor in directing and supporting the activities of Paint Line Technicians.
• Collaborate with Technicians to confirm correct racking of parts and adherence to the production schedule for timely completion.
• Coordinate with Material Handling and Production Control to ensure orders are prepared promptly for assembly.
• Provide insights on scheduling to maximize efficiency and guarantee on-time delivery.
• Stay updated on procedural changes and communicate them promptly to maintain schedule adherence.
• Resolve issues by facilitating communication and backing continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor equipment such as pre-treatment systems, conveyors, wastewater treatment, cure ovens, and assist powder room coordinators in troubleshooting application machinery.
• Track departmental supply levels and report shortages to the supervisor.
• Maintain awareness of company quality policies related to packaging.
• Contribute to cost-saving efforts, continuous improvements, and operational efficiency enhancements.
• Adhere to all company policies, safety standards, and regulations.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To succeed in this position, candidates must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills enabling effective interaction with supervisors and peers.
• Capability to lead teams efficiently and coordinate cross-departmental tasks.
• Aptitude for following instructions and executing tasks proficiently.
• Basic knowledge of print reading and understanding torque values.
• Judiciousness in escalating issues requiring higher technical or leadership intervention.
• Familiarity with basic computer operations.
• Minimum education of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience in a technical or powder paint environment.
• Proficiency in basic mathematics.
• Forklift operation experience.
• Exposure to Lean manufacturing principles.
• Understanding of both Metric and Standard measurement systems.
• Associate degree in a related technical field is desirable.
• Prior leadership experience in painting or powder coating departments.
• Skills in Microsoft Office; SAP knowledge is advantageous.
• Certification in wastewater treatment processes.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

You will frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 55 pounds, as well as push and pull similar weights. The job requires you to perform overhead reaching, climbing, squatting, bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and moving around the workspace. These activities range from occasional to regular throughout the shift.

The workplace environment includes exposure to temperatures between 60 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, loud noises, moving machinery parts, airborne particles, and fumes generated from production equipment.
