Job description
Position Overview
This vital role supports the mission of inviting others to embrace the restored gospel through faith and key religious ordinances. In-Field Mentor Trainers are senior individual contributors tasked with ensuring missionaries receive comprehensive and effective training by leading and coaching teachers, conducting both group and one-on-one training sessions, and promoting continual development of teaching quality. They typically oversee the work of 10 to 15 teachers.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Training Department Manager.
- Conduct training and ongoing assessment and growth of teachers and missionaries.
- Provide individual coaching and facilitate weekly in-service training meetings for teachers.
- Supply teachers with relevant training materials and policy updates.
- Observe and appraise the performance of missionaries and teachers.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and provide targeted support.
- Support the Manager of Training in preparing new teachers before classroom instruction.
- Ensure teachers effectively deliver the official Missionary Training Center (MTC) curriculum.
- Contribute to development and updates of the MTC curriculum.
- Substitute as classroom teachers when required.
- Advocate for the overall well-being of missionaries.
- Evaluate missionary experiences and performances.
- Lead teachers to tailor support according to individual missionary needs and foster a positive learning environment.
- Manage daily supervisory tasks and collaborate with the Manager on disciplinary matters.
- Recommend merit increases, coordinate with other lead teachers, and assist in hiring interviews and assessments.
- Report progress on missionary and teacher performance to management.
- Facilitate area training meetings and coordinate training resources.
- Assist with other temporary duties such as Mission Leadership Seminars and language proficiency assessments.
Required Qualifications
- At least six months of experience as an MTC teacher or In-Field Mentor.
- Returned missionary status within the last three years.
- Fluency in a non-native language (excluding English or ESL assignments).
- Strong knowledge of MTC language learning methods and training principles.
- Problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
- Capacity to perform well under pressure and proficient use of technology relevant to the MTC environment.
- Superior interpersonal and leadership skills alongside a thorough understanding of the “Preach My Gospel” curriculum.
- A proactive, encouraging attitude and self-motivation.
- Physical capability to sit for extended periods and use required equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of prior experience in teaching, training, or tutoring.
