Job description
Role Overview
The Operations Manager will lead efforts to enhance transportation functions, focusing on dispatch, work orders, driver planning and pay, billing, yard activities, and reporting. They will identify inefficiencies such as redundant tasks, errors, delays, and lost revenue opportunities, driving process improvements and automation projects to optimize operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and refine transportation workflows across multiple operational domains including dispatch, billing, and driver logistics.
- Detect and address manual redundancies, operational errors, delays, and missed billing instances.
- Prioritize and maintain a roadmap for automation and reporting enhancements.
- Collaborate with Operations and IT teams to convert business challenges into clear system and functional specifications.
- Participate in process mapping, system testing, user acceptance, and rollout of operational system upgrades.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as driver wait time, pay accuracy, accessorial charges, work-order correctness, truck capacity, empty returns, and recurring operational reports.
- Assess outcomes of improvements by tracking cost reductions, revenue recovery, minimized manual tasks, fewer errors, and elevated service quality.
- Create and enhance operational dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, and other tools.
- Take ownership of assigned initiatives from initial problem identification through implementation and performance measurement.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- At least five years of hands-on experience in trucking, transportation logistics, operations, process analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Practical knowledge of Transportation Management Systems, dispatch operations, driver logistics, billing practices, and operational reporting.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, APIs, AI-driven productivity tools, workflow automation, and business reporting platforms.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Adept at working collaboratively with Operations, Leadership, and IT departments.
Additional Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with container transport, drayage, intermodal trucking, or equivalent freight transportation settings.
- Experience with TMS system enhancements, digital transformation projects, or business process automation.
- Background in North American trucking or transportation operations.
