Operations & Maintenance Technician

Role Overview

We are seeking an Operations & Maintenance Technician responsible for managing several water and wastewater treatment plants based mainly in Ballinrobe, Claremorris, and Ballintubber, County Mayo. Key sites include Lough Carra WTP, Ballycroy WTP, Glenhest WTP, Belderrig WTP, Fahy WTP, Kilmeena WTP, Killeen WTP, Laghta WTP, Drummin WTP, Lough Mask WTP, Glencorrib WTP, Brackloon, Spaddagh WTP, Kilmovee Urlaur WTP, among others assigned by your manager. The role provides a competitive salary and a commercial vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

• Assume full responsibility for specified water and wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring adherence to quality and cleanliness standards.
• Conduct regular operation and maintenance inspections daily, weekly, monthly, or as scheduled to maintain treated water and effluent quality and quantity within required specifications.
• Perform groundskeeping tasks including grass cutting and general cleaning and upkeep of facilities.
• Operate mostly independently, requiring usage of a lone working device following established procedures.
• Regularly visit assigned sites and complete detailed site visit reports via the Site Reporting App.
• Provide induction and welcome to visitors during initial visits and log visits using the Site Reporting App.
• Carry out thorough walkthrough inspections of all plant areas and treatment processes, documenting findings and required tasks in the Site Reporting App.
• Respond promptly to critical alarms to maintain operational treatment outputs.
• Adjust processes as necessary to ensure treated water and wastewater meet required standards, recording any changes.
• Conduct weekly HSQE walkthroughs to ascertain health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance, completing and submitting the Weekly HSQE Checklist.
• Support delivery of Capital Replacement Fund (CRF) projects as directed.
• Demonstrate eagerness for professional growth and assist in mentoring and training junior team members.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Role Details and Work Arrangements

Technicians will be allocated ownership of designated treatment plants and will coordinate with colleagues to ensure continuous coverage during absences. The position operates on a rota managed by O&M office staff that includes out-of-hours and public holiday coverage, requiring adherence to notice protocols for any rota changes. Effective email and app communication with professional etiquette are essential tools for daily operations.
