Role Purpose

The Stateroom Steward/ess plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, personalized housekeeping services. Responsibilities include maintaining impeccable cleanliness in guest cabins while ensuring exceptional customer care to guarantee guest satisfaction, repeat bookings, and enhanced company profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Performing twice-daily cleaning routines for 15–20 staterooms, including bed-making, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning verandas, bathrooms, toilets, windows, mirrors, and replenishing linens, towels, and amenities.
• Supporting and assisting the Assistant Stateroom Steward by being thoroughly acquainted with all stateroom procedures.
• Reporting maintenance issues via shipboard systems and managing replacement of glassware and coffee machines.
• Ensuring guest privacy and security, attentively managing any guest complaints.
• Delivering ice, handling laundry pick-ups and deliveries, and providing shoeshine services.
• Proper handling and use of cleaning chemicals, materials, and equipment; segregating and disposing of garbage in compliance with public health standards.
• Participating in luggage handling during embarkation and disembarkation days.
• Joining daily team meetings to align on operational requirements and uphold STAR Service standards.
• Maintaining outstanding cleanliness, hygiene, and guest comfort in assigned areas in line with company policies and public health regulations.
• Proper use of requisite personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe lifting techniques to avoid injury.
• Upholding Viking’s grooming and uniform standards at all times.
• Securing company property, particularly protecting it in adverse weather conditions to prevent damage or loss.
• Demonstrating adaptability by working varied shifts and maintaining a positive, professional demeanor representing Viking.
• Staying informed about itinerary details, shore excursions, and onboard activities to enhance guest engagement.
• Commitment to achieving departmental goals concerning quality and financial targets.
• Adhering strictly to all safety, security, environmental, and public health protocols, including participating in required training and drills.
• Managing minibar operations on cruises as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper.
• Willingness to assist other departments or take on extra tasks as directed.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum two years of experience as a Stateroom Steward/ess or equivalent role.
• Previous service on premium cruise ships or operations maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest service.
• Capability to clean 15–20 rooms twice daily.
• Physical ability to walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and handle loads exceeding 50 lbs.
• Proficient English communication skills for effective guest interactions.
• A guest-focused and service-oriented attitude, along with a professional appearance and impeccable personal hygiene.
• Confident handling of confidential information.
• Experience working safely with various chemicals, hazardous materials, and cleaning equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of public health and sanitation regulations.

Guidelines and Regulations

• Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and STAR Service Standards.
• Compliance with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards regarding clothing and appearance.
• Employment subject to passing mandatory medical examinations.
• Tattoo policy: visible tattoos are not allowed; any visible tattoos concealed under makeup or clothing beyond the uniform are still considered visible and non-compliant, with limited exceptions evaluated individually.
• Applicants may be invited but are not required to submit a personal video introduction as part of the recruitment process.

Reporting Structure

• Position reports to Assistant Chief Housekeeper.
• Receives instructions from Assistant Chief Housekeeper, Executive Housekeeper, and Hotel General Manager.
• Provides guidance to Assistant Stateroom Steward if applicable.
