Ko Taku Reo dedicates itself to delivering educational support and resources enabling Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children across New Zealand to achieve their academic goals while fostering their social-emotional development and identity formation. The Role / Te Mahi
We seek a dedicated full-time Occupational Therapist to become part of our Integrated Services Team. This position primarily operates from our Auckland Campus in Kelston and extends support to students aged 5 to 21 along with their families/whānau within our Deaf education provisions in Auckland (Kelston and Ormiston), Wellington, and Christchurch, including residential services. Occasional travel once per term to Wellington and Christchurch sites is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and support the wellbeing of our ākonga and their whānau.
- Ensure adherence to organizational values and legislative requirements.
- Collaborate with families, schools, and external agencies to facilitate student participation in the New Zealand curriculum.
- Advocate effectively for the needs of students.
- Modify equipment and adapt school environments to meet student-specific requirements.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records.
- Coordinate with staff across the organization to secure optimal outcomes for students.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess approved Occupational Therapy qualifications with demonstrated pediatric expertise.
- Have current skills or a willingness to develop proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and Deaf cultural practices.
- Show commitment to enhancing student learning, achievement, and success.
- Understand the New Zealand Education Sector.
- Exhibit strong communication and diplomatic abilities.
- Align with and respect the values upheld by our organization.
- Engage positively and respectfully with students and colleagues alike.
- Hold a clean, full driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle; mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
