Job description
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced MySQL Database Administrator with 6 to 7 years in managing and optimizing MySQL environments. This role involves maintaining database servers, enhancing performance, ensuring security, and supporting application teams with database design and troubleshooting production issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, upgrade, and maintain MySQL database servers.
- Continuously monitor database performance and detect bottlenecks early.
- Conduct database tuning, optimize queries, and manage indexes effectively.
- Design and implement backup and recovery plans.
- Manage MySQL Replication setups including Master-Slave and Master-Master architectures.
- Administer database security by managing user roles, privileges, and access controls.
- Diagnose and resolve database problems to maximize uptime and reliability.
- Support application teams in improving database design and optimizing performance.
- Perform capacity planning alongside regular health checks of databases.
- Automate standard database administration tasks using scripting languages like Shell or Python.
- Document system architecture, processes, and operational guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proficient with MySQL 5.x and 8.x database administration.
- Experience with replication, partitioning, and clustering technologies.
- Skilled in backup tools such as MySQL Enterprise Backup and Percona XtraBackup.
- Strong command over SQL, stored procedures, views, and triggers.
- Expertise in query performance tuning and optimization.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux system administration.
- Experience handling database migration and upgrade tasks.
- Knowledgeable about monitoring solutions including Nagios, Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent OEM tools.
- Comfortable working with cloud-based databases such as AWS RDS MySQL and Azure Database for MySQL is preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to PostgreSQL or Oracle database systems.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools like Git, Jenkins, and Ansible.
- Experience designing high availability systems, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Perl for automation purposes.
Educational Background
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- MySQL certification would be advantageous.
