Position Overview
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) seeks a versatile Multiskilled Operator to join its Canberra team on a permanent full-time basis. This role involves working across various aspects of news production such as camera operation, editing, sound, and studio production. The successful candidate will contribute creatively to crafting engaging, top-quality news content that reaches audiences through digital, television, and live outside broadcasts on multiple platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-standard, visually compelling news segments for TV and online audiences.
- Operate cameras, sound systems, editing tools, and studio equipment proficiently.
- Adapt flexibly to cover roles in camera operation, editing, and studio production as required.
- Identify and report technical faults in equipment to uphold quality standards.
- Demonstrate initiative by mentoring team members and fostering continuous skill development.
- Keep abreast of advancements in news production technologies and techniques.
Candidate Profile
- Possess tertiary qualifications or equivalent practical skills and experience relevant to media production.
- Hold recent and proven experience in camera, sound, editing, and live operations specifically within News and Current Affairs, including dynamic environments such as breaking news and disasters.
- Experience spanning multiple production disciplines, including studio operations, rather than a single specialization.
- Comfortable producing content tailored for online and mobile video platforms.
- Comprehensive, advanced understanding of TV broadcasting technology, computer systems, and emerging media technologies.
- Team-oriented approach, actively contributing throughout project phases to enhance quality and resolve issues.
- Proactive learner committed to sharing knowledge and driving workplace improvements.
- Solid grasp of administrative processes and adherence to safe work practices.
- Capability to adapt to new production technologies and workflows efficiently.
- Clear and effective communicator who can prioritize tasks, address problems, and contribute creatively.
