Multi-Asset Arbitrage Technology Engineer

Role Overview

Balyasny Asset Management (BAM) is searching for a skilled Developer experienced in creating, supporting, and integrating globally accessible quantitative trading platforms. This role requires collaboration with quantitative researchers and portfolio managers to understand requirements and build related tools. Responsibilities cover the entire software lifecycle including gathering requirements, system design, coding, testing, and releasing robust solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance BAM's proprietary Equity Vol systematic trading platform and infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with end-users and development teams to produce tailored software solutions.
• Architect a reliable scheduling and resource monitoring system that integrates seamlessly with existing proprietary software.
• Work alongside internal teams to establish best practices in technology streamlining, system integration, API design, and deployment processes.
• Balance competing demands such as feasibility, system stability, scalability, and timely delivery of projects.
• Operate largely independently, exercising sound judgment throughout development activities.
• Contribute to shared tooling to improve the overall platform's capabilities.
• Automate currently manual processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of five years of professional software development experience within financial services or a comparable enterprise-level environment.
• Proficient in working with relational databases and crafting production-level SQL queries on engines such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, or ClickHouse.
• Hands-on experience handling real-time market data; familiarity with historical time-series data is advantageous.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or Rust; experience with C++ is a bonus.
• Additional knowledge in frontend technologies (React, CSS), cloud services (AWS), caching (Redis), container orchestration (Kubernetes), messaging systems (Kafka), and low-latency middleware is beneficial.
• At least five years of practicing Agile development methodologies, including SCRUM.
• Experience applying fundamental DevOps practices such as continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) and infrastructure-as-code.
• Meticulous attention to detail with a high standard for accuracy.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues logically.
• Ability to effectively document ideas, requirements, and challenges clearly and succinctly.
