Job description
About Hyperexponential
Hyperexponential is innovating at the intersection of AI and insurance, developing a platform that facilitates essential decision-making in a $7 trillion industry. This platform transforms how insurers price risks and make critical choices, impacting areas such as rocket launches, autonomous vehicles, and community disaster recovery.
Our technology combines data, artificial intelligence, and expert insights to accelerate underwriting decisions, enabling insurers to operate more efficiently and confidently. Backed by notable investors, we're expanding globally and trusted by nearly 50 major insurers, processing billions in premiums.
Our platform has evolved into a multi-product, multi-location solution, with AI integral to our cutting-edge tools including a domain-specific AI programmer specialized in insurance actuarial science.
At Hyperexponential, impactful work is defined by challenge and expertise rather than position or time served. We foster a culture where ambitious talent can excel and deliver meaningful technological advances.
About The Model Development Team
The Model Development Team (MDT) includes engineers, actuaries, mathematicians, and data scientists focused on addressing the most complex modelling challenges encountered by our customers, primarily using our proprietary platform hx Renew.
MDT members possess comprehensive knowledge of hx Renew’s capabilities and limitations, leveraging this expertise to demonstrate optimal solutions and contribute to the evolution of our technology within the insurance domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of model development on the hx Renew platform, encompassing scoping, building, testing, iterative refinement, and delivery to customers.
- Develop and maintain robust, production-level Python models using modern engineering and modelling standards.
- Collaborate directly with actuarial professionals and internal teams to address complex and ambiguous modelling and coding challenges.
- Enhance overall team quality through thorough code reviews, rigorous testing, and shaping model development best practices.
- Provide mentorship and support for junior team members, including pairing and constructive feedback.
- Continuously seek improvements in model development methods, tools, and workflows.
Required Experience and Skills
- Proven track record of shipping and sustaining production-grade Python software in complex and data-intensive environments.
- Experience applying predictive modelling or advanced analytics techniques in practical scenarios; insurance or reinsurance knowledge is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to independently structure and resolve ambiguous problems to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Skill in translating requirements from non-technical stakeholders into reliable technical implementations.
- Comfort working in a high-trust environment with proactive self-development and accountability.
Personal Attributes
Successful candidates thrive when experimenting with novel approaches rather than following rigid instructions, enjoy direct interaction with non-technical stakeholders to understand challenges, and embrace open-ended problems lacking clear solutions.
Those preferring prescribed tasks or hesitant to face ambiguity may find this role incompatible.
