Job description
About 7shifts and the Role
7shifts is a specialized HR platform designed to empower restaurant teams by simplifying workforce management. Serving over 55,000 restaurants, the platform helps save time, reduce errors, and control costs with industry-specific solutions. The mission is to foster a thriving restaurant industry through connected and engaged teams.
As a Mid-Market Software Developer at 7shifts, you will be a core engineer in the newly established mid-market squad, tasked with constructing crucial systems that support complex restaurant groups across multiple locations. Your role involves owning full feature lifecycles from design to deployment, making pragmatic technical choices. Collaboration will be key, working closely with product managers, data teams, and leadership while actively incorporating AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and uphold data architectures and pipelines enabling rollup reporting for multi-location restaurant enterprises, covering all layers from database schema design to frontend delivery.
- Participate in architecting and building a permissions and authorization framework to support robust role-based access control at scale.
- Integrate AI-powered development tools into your workflow, rigorously validating outputs to ensure production-grade code quality.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, product partners, and data specialists to transform requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Own the troubleshooting and resolution of production issues including bugs and user-reported concerns.
- Enhance the engineering team's culture by engaging in technical discussions, refining development processes, and upholding quality standards.
- Drive projects from conceptualization through to rollout, balancing technical soundness with timely delivery.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or related fields.
- Experience collaborating in team environments to build, deploy, and maintain web applications and services.
- Comfortable working on greenfield projects where specifications evolve gradually and the ability to identify when to seek clarification is essential.
- Strong foundational knowledge of relational databases and backend development, enabling effective contributions to data modeling and permissions system design.
- Proven history of delivering well-crafted code with a strong sense of ownership, seeing tasks through to completion beyond just code submission.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in ambiguous scenarios, proactively raising blockers and keeping teams updated.
- Self-motivated with an ability to prioritize work and make informed technical trade-offs under guidance.
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude as an integral part of the coding process rather than merely exploratory.
- Customer-centric mindset with a genuine passion for developing products that address real-world challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on exposure to data lake or warehouse technologies like Snowflake, BigQuery, or AWS equivalents.
- Background in industries where precision, dependability, and real-time data are critical.
- Previous work in restaurant technology with a focus on end-customer solutions.
- Practical experience with Elixir programming language in production settings.
