Mid-level Backend Engineer (Remote) - UK

About the Role

We are searching for dedicated and skilled software engineers to expand our London-based Engineering team. Successful candidates will work within a cross-disciplinary team that includes product managers and designers. You will collaborate closely with business units to deliver effective code solutions that address challenges for both internal and external users. This role involves taking full ownership of your team's solutions and ensuring the highest quality in all releases, working alongside a high-caliber international development team.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop technical solutions by defining optimal approaches to business challenges and contributing to a scalable architecture aimed at creating the premier global research platform.
• Deliver functional code by primarily working with React on the frontend and Kotlin microservices along with Postgres on the backend. Familiarity with legacy Ruby on Rails services is also relevant. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to enhance the technology stack.
• Handle deployment and iterative improvements through frequent releases using CircleCI and Spinnaker for continuous integration and deployment, and quickly incorporate customer feedback for subsequent iterations.
• Advance technical skills rapidly by building leading-edge technology alongside experienced engineers, with support for learning and development expenditures to enhance specific competencies.
• Maintain and troubleshoot services by proactively monitoring systems to detect errors early, identifying root causes, and efficiently deploying fixes to avoid user impact.

Candidate Profile

• A degree in a STEM discipline is preferred, though alternative paths through self-directed learning or different experiences are welcomed.
• Experience collaborating within mature engineering teams at a similar career level, with a drive to progress professionally. We seek candidates demonstrating exceptional potential.
• Technical proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Kotlin with additional knowledge of Ruby, alongside experience working with relational databases.
• A proven history of making significant contributions in previous roles, distinguishing yourself among peers.
• Self-motivated and proactive, exhibiting persistent problem-solving skills and a drive for superior results.
• Detail-oriented individuals who uphold rigorous standards and demonstrate meticulous attention to accuracy.
