Job description
About V R Engineering
V R Engineering specializes in manufacturing precision-engineered components such as keys, nuts, and machined parts catering to industrial customers nationally and globally. The company seeks a skilled Metallurgy Engineer to enhance their expertise in material testing, chemical analysis, and quality assurance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, calibrate, and resolve issues with spark Optical Emission Spectrometers (OES) for analyzing chemical compositions of various metals independently.
- Confirm the grades of metals including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, free-cutting steel, tool steel, die steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, and nickel alloys.
- Conduct hardness testing using Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers methods and assess results against defined acceptance criteria.
- Individually prepare reports detailing chemical compositions, hardness testing, and material verification; analyze data against specifications to identify deviations and confirm compliance.
- Evaluate Material Test Certificates (MTCs), supplier documentation, and customer specifications to ensure quality standards are met.
- Support investigations into material defects, heat treatment complications, abnormal hardness issues, and machining-related challenges.
- Manage laboratory operations including equipment upkeep, calibration documentation, standard procedures, and material traceability records.
- Work closely with production, quality assurance, and procurement teams to address and resolve material non-conformances through root cause analysis.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 5 to 10 years' relevant experience in metallurgy, material testing, or quality assurance within machining or metal production environments.
- Proven hands-on expertise operating spark OES spectrometers including sample preparation, analytical programming, result verification, and fault diagnosis.
- Practical knowledge testing both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Preferred experience with surface hardening techniques such as Case Carburising, Hardening, and Nitriding.
- Familiarity with NABL and BIS Laboratory certifications and ISO audits is advantageous.
- Skilled in Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers hardness measurement techniques and microstructure analysis.
- Competence in independently generating and assessing technical reports using software tools like Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of material grades, chemical composition requirements, and standards from ASTM, ISO, EN, and SAE, including Material Test Certificates interpretation.
- Strong analytical abilities, detailed documentation skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge in metallography, heat treatment processes, microstructural analysis, and failure investigations.
- Experience with ISO 9001 standards, laboratory calibration, and quality protocols.
- Background in supplier quality management, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective measures.
