Job description

Position Overview

The MES Developer is responsible for creating and sustaining the software applications vital for the daily operations of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This role involves implementing features, resolving bugs, generating reports, and developing automation scripts. Working under the guidance of MES Engineering, the developer will engage in clearly defined tasks with ample opportunity to expand into system design and equipment integration as professional experience increases. This position offers substantial hands-on software development experience in a manufacturing context, without the immediate responsibility of system architecture or on-call escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance MES modules including lot tracking, production transaction management, reporting interfaces, and user tools.
  • Troubleshoot MES application issues as first response, escalating complex architectural or multi-system problems to the MES Engineering team.
  • Create and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports using Oracle and/or MS-SQL databases.
  • Support data processing functions and respond to ad hoc information requests from Manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams.
  • Implement EDI interfaces and data integration functionalities based on existing MES Engineering standards.
  • Develop automation scripts to improve manufacturing, reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • Shadow and assist with SECS/GEM and equipment interface projects to gain exposure to manufacturing equipment integration.
  • Conduct code reviews, manage version control, and maintain a clean, maintainable codebase.
  • Design test cases and perform unit, integration, and user acceptance testing.
  • Assist in production validation post-release and deployment.
  • Maintain clear documentation, including user guides and troubleshooting resources for common MES issues.
  • Engage actively in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and release planning with the application team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2 to 3 years of practical software development experience; prior exposure to MES or manufacturing environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in programming languages and frameworks: C, C#/.NET, ASP.NET; with working knowledge of C++ and Python.
  • Competent in SQL with the ability to write queries, create basic stored procedures, and debug database-related issues in Oracle or MS-SQL.
  • Capability to understand and enhance existing codebases written by other developers.
  • Eagerness to learn manufacturing workflows such as lot, wafer, and panel tracking and production transactions during on-the-job training.
  • Strong written communication skills for preparing technical and user documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with system interfaces, APIs, and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) implementations.
  • Any knowledge or hands-on experience with SECS/GEM protocols or equipment integration, including academic projects or self-driven learning.
  • Motivation to advance towards MES system architecture and comprehensive system design roles.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of semiconductor or manufacturing industries is a plus.
