Job description
About Inition
Inition is an innovative engineering company driven by the vision to push boundaries and improve lives. Collaborating with ambitious clients, we transform complex challenges into tangible solutions by guiding projects from initial concepts through prototyping and testing phases.

- Creating products that evolve from sketches to fully tested and verified prototypes
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer at Inition, you will take full ownership of mechanical design projects, overseeing them from concept through to build and testing stages. You will be expected to navigate undefined challenges without existing precedents, adapting your approach as necessary.
Your responsibilities will also include making independent decisions within your authority, escalating higher-risk issues promptly, meticulously reviewing your work, and supporting your colleagues to maintain quality standards.
You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineers, designers, technicians, and clients, communicating your reasoning clearly and contributing to knowledge sharing by providing and receiving constructive feedback.
Candidate Profile
- Possesses a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or an equivalent qualification
- Hands-on experience managing engineering tasks on actual projects beyond graduate-level work
- Proficient with 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, and capable of performing engineering calculations aligned with relevant standards
- Committed to quality and proactive in seeking guidance when decisions fall outside your remit
- Curious and comfortable with problem-solving in situations lacking clear prior examples
- Preferred but not mandatory skills include Finite Element Analysis (FEA), programming in Python, knowledge of amusement ride standards (e.g., AS 3533), or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation
- Leadership or mentoring experience is advantageous but not essential
Why Join Our Team?
- Meaningful projects contributing to safety and memorable experiences
- Opportunities for professional growth based on merit and aspiration, supported by a People Leader and a structured Engineering Ladder
- Flexible working arrangements including variable hours and occasional remote work, emphasizing work-life balance
- Comprehensive benefits, featuring Southern Cross health insurance for you and your family, life and critical illness cover, income protection, Employee Assistance Programs, KiwiSaver, and an annual wellness allowance
- Educational support with up to 4 hours per week allocated for approved study, plus aid for attending conferences and courses
- Access to state-of-the-art lab and testing facilities in Christchurch, including personal project use after hours
Work Environment
Join a collaborative, down-to-earth, and innovative group where no two days are the same. You’ll engage with diverse projects and individuals passionate about quality and innovation, fostering an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives.
Positions are open in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. While the lab and test facilities reside in Christchurch, expect some travel if based elsewhere, with all travel expenses covered.
