Role Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead our established team of more than 15 Transmission & Distribution (T&D) engineers and designers in Christchurch I Ōtautahi. This position offers strong autonomy to influence team direction while continuing to apply your technical design, project management, client relationship, or design management expertise. You will lead a diverse group of electrical engineers and delivery managers at varying career stages, from recent graduates to seasoned professionals. This role involves close collaboration with T&D leadership within New Zealand and with peers in Australia and globally, blending global expertise with local experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a multidisciplinary T&D engineering and design team.
- Manage team performance, recruitment, development, and retention.
- Oversee project pipelines, commercial outcomes, client engagement, and delivery KPIs.
- Shape and nurture a collaborative, purpose-driven, diverse team culture focused on excellence and innovation.
- Balance client, project, team, and commercial priorities effectively.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate has proven people leadership capabilities, fostering positive environments and driving teams to meet technical, project, and client objectives. You should be an advocate for developing engineering leaders within the T&D domain with strong coaching and mentorship skills. While team leadership experience is highly advantageous, individuals with a background in project management, design management, technical roles, or client relations who exhibit leadership potential are also encouraged to apply. Familiarity with New Zealand’s T&D sector and client needs is preferred.
- Experience leading teams or managing projects/design delivery with the ability to build team capability.
- Technical expertise or project delivery experience in Transmission & Distribution.
- Strong commercial acumen and client-oriented approach, combined with organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management managing multiple competing priorities, ideally within consultancy environments.
- Experience collaborating with remote teams across New Zealand and Australia is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish trusted client relationships.
- Passion for mentoring, team collaboration, and driving high performance.
