Overview
EC2 Accelerated Nitro is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead an engineering team focusing on significant business impact. The role involves driving optimization and innovation across EC2 platforms, ensuring exceptional performance, scalability, and reliability. As a key leader, you will define the technical roadmap, collaborate with Principal Engineers, Product Managers, and interrelated engineering teams dispersed across various geographies and time zones.
Responsibilities
- Analyze intricate technical and business requests, evaluating risks and communicating solutions effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Partner closely with Product Managers and Principal Engineers to guide your team's strategic vision and motivate them towards continuous improvement.
- Establish the team's vision and prioritized plans aimed at timely project delivery while managing operational responsibilities including on-call rotations.
- Maintain transparent and concise communication with leadership and customers, balancing technical detail with executive messaging.
- Develop a high-performing team by overseeing hiring, mentoring, professional growth, and performance evaluation.
- Influence cross-functional teams and leaders, frequently engaging in technical discussions and coordinating efforts with global counterparts.
Typical Day
You will focus on recruiting suitable talent to elevate your team's ability to deliver new features that enhance customer satisfaction. Proactively manage production software, anticipate issues, learn from incidents, and uphold uninterrupted service. You will also shape your team's long-term roadmap and collaborate with other managers in the organization to improve overall engineering practices and organizational effectiveness.

- Eliminate on-premises customer workloads by developing EC2 instance families featuring hardware acceleration.
- Create the most advanced and feature-rich virtualization technology within the cloud.
About AWS Utility Computing
The AWS Utility Computing (UC) group innovates foundational and advanced cloud computing services including EC2, S3, databases, storage, IoT, and productivity applications. Within UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud focuses on specialized security solutions tailored for customer cloud services.
Basic Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in software development.
- Strong understanding of operating system principles.
- Proven track record of managing software development teams using agile methodologies.
- Experience formulating and executing software product roadmaps with project leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Linux-based software.
- In-depth knowledge of operating system performance, including kernel-level impacts.
- Designing and implementing software development life cycles.
- Translating business requirements into engineering specifications.
