Job Overview
The Manager of Innovation is instrumental in cultivating an innovative environment, spearheading advancements in emerging technologies, and enabling the conversion of research findings into commercial products and services. This position entails directing innovation initiatives, overseeing the Technology Transfer Office, and collaborating extensively with academic, industrial, and governmental partners to enhance the impact of the Innovation Hub’s programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute innovation strategies that align with the Hub's mission and objectives for clinical and research-based technology development.
- Identify and prioritize pivotal innovation and technology development sectors.
- Lead innovation initiatives ensuring they correspond with evolving market dynamics and novel technologies.
- Manage the Technology Transfer Office operations, including oversight of intellectual property rights, patent processes, and licensing agreements.
- Drive the commercialization process by linking researchers with industry partners, investors, and other commercialization opportunities.
- Negotiate and oversee contracts, licenses, and partnerships to facilitate effective technology transfer.
- Establish and nurture relationships with academic institutions, industry leaders, government bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Encourage partnerships that bolster innovation and technology transfer goals.
- Represent the Innovation Hub at conferences, trade events, and stakeholder meetings to showcase its capabilities and projects.
- Oversee innovation programs such as incubators, accelerators, and startup assistance initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and support to startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators affiliated with the Hub.
- Monitor innovation project progress, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met successfully.
- Measure and report key performance indicators related to innovation efforts, technology transfer successes, and commercialization outcomes.
- Deliver periodic performance updates to the Director of Research Operations and Services regarding innovative projects and Hub impact.
- Champion an organizational culture that values innovation, creativity, experimentation, and ongoing enhancement.
- Keep abreast of current trends, technologies, and methodologies in innovation and technology transfer, sharing knowledge with team members and partners.
- Assist the Director of Research Operations in achieving innovation objectives as outlined in the research strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in a pertinent discipline such as Engineering, Science, Business, or Innovation Management.
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years with escalating roles in innovation management, technology transfer, or comparable areas.
- Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE is required.
