Job description

Introduction

Join Nxera at the forefront of the data centre industry, where sustainability, connectivity, and AI define the next generation of data centre operations. Gain invaluable experience in a rapidly growing sector driving digital transformation. Contribute to shaping the future alongside a dynamic team.

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned expert in Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) engineering specialized in data centres. As a vital part of our M&E team, you will focus on Electrical Power Systems within mission-critical data centre environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create advanced mission-critical systems aligned with company long-term strategies.
  • Design conceptual critical data centre equipment emphasizing Electrical Power Systems including EHT Transformers, Switch Bays, Ring Main Units, and Transformers.
  • Prepare concept designs that satisfy or surpass quality standards, adhere to budgets, and optimize energy efficiency.
  • Work in partnership with internal teams, regional vendors, and manufacturers to specify optimal Electrical systems for both upstream and downstream infrastructures.
  • Develop electrical designs for data centres and collaborate cross-functionally to produce comprehensive construction documentation.
  • Apply electrical engineering knowledge to interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLD), electrical distribution layouts, and equipment specifications, coordinating with electrical and commissioning teams for task execution.
  • Actively research new engineering systems or technologies applicable to data centres to enhance performance, reduce energy and water consumption, boost operational productivity, and lower ownership costs.
  • Coordinate with Energy and Sustainability teams to review systems design and equipment selection targeting low energy and water usage, driving reductions in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) across facilities.
  • Evaluate and review RFIs and documentation submissions from consultants, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • Scrutinize data centre commissioning scripts ensuring accurate testing aligned with operational requirements.
  • Review engineering design and construction drawings along with specifications for data centre projects.
  • Analyze emerging industry technologies to optimize power consumption, quality, and efficiency.
  • Assess design, construction, and ongoing operations of mission-critical facilities and their M&E components.
  • Provide engineering evaluations, electrical system audits, site reviews, and startup support as needed, including travel to overseas sites.
  • Manage electrical power system issues throughout design, procurement, manufacturing, delivery, and installation phases.
  • Maintain and update internal design standards, specifications, drawings, and lessons learned to reflect current equipment configurations.
  • Prepare detailed documentation including statements of work, engineering reports, design documents, cost analyses, drawing markups, budgets, schedules, commissioning plans, and design specifications.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Electrical power system fundamentals including load flow, fault analysis, and protective devices.
  • Familiarity with local codes of practice and regulations relevant to electrical engineering.
  • Experience with large-scale mission-critical facility M&E infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or system reliability.
  • Strong business case analysis capabilities to justify technical decisions to management.
  • Proficiency managing concurrent projects across multiple geographic regions.
  • Ability to integrate renewable energy systems into distribution networks.
  • Capability to travel internationally to support data centre construction and implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all management levels.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Experience handling fast-track design/build projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing M&E systems for mission-critical data centre settings.
