Manager, Data Modeling

Overview

The Data Modeling Manager will oversee the design, creation, governance, and continuous enhancement of enterprise-level data models. Their efforts directly support business intelligence, analytics, reporting functions, and data-driven decision-making across the company. This role collaborates closely with key stakeholders in business units, data architects, engineers, and analytics teams to ensure data structures are effectively integrated, governed, and optimized in line with both business and technical needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and management of conceptual, logical, and physical data models throughout the organization.
• Establish and enforce standards, methodologies, naming conventions, and best practices for data modeling activities.
• Partner with business stakeholders to comprehend requirements and translate these into practical, impactful data models.
• Design flexible, scalable, and high-quality data architectures for use in data warehouses, data lakes, and analytic platforms.
• Guarantee that data models fulfill the needs of business intelligence, reporting, analytics, and operational workflows.
• Critically review and approve data models created by architects, analysts, and engineering teams.
• Define data relationships, entities, attributes, keys, hierarchies, and enforce relevant business rules.
• Align data modeling efforts with broader enterprise architecture, data governance, and information management frameworks.
• Spot opportunities to simplify and optimize existing data models and data structures.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to ensure models are implemented successfully.
• Support data governance by maintaining data consistency, accuracy, integrity, and traceability.
• Document data models thoroughly, including definitions, metadata, and lineage information.
• Manage data modeling projects including priorities, timeframes, resources, and deliverables.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to data modeling and architecture personnel.
• Research and assess new data modeling methodologies, technologies, and industry best practices.
• Ensure models comply with organizational policies, security guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related discipline.
• Over ten years of professional experience in data modeling, architecture, data warehousing, or closely related fields.
• Proficient with conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling techniques.
• Practical experience with relational database systems, data warehouses, and analytical data platforms.
• Deep understanding of data architecture principles, ETL/ELT processes, data integration, and governance frameworks.
• Experienced user of data modeling tools such as ER/Studio, SAP PowerDesigner, or equivalent software.
• Adept at translating complex business needs into scalable, effective data solutions.
