Position Overview
We seek a seasoned Manager of Compensation skilled in navigating complex compensation challenges within Canadian regulatory frameworks, including Pay Equity legislation in Federal, Ontario, and Quebec jurisdictions, plus evolving Pay Transparency laws. This hybrid role (2-3 days onsite in Toronto) leads and mentors a Total Rewards compensation team, influencing senior leadership on critical pay-related decisions such as restructures, short-term incentive plans, job leveling, and organizational design. The role delivers scalable strategic compensation solutions aligned with TMX's pay philosophy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct leadership and development of Compensation Partners and Analysts, cultivating a high-performing team culture and managing workload priorities aligned with HR strategy.
- Serve as senior compensation consultant for designated business units, advising on complex pay matters and partnering with HRBPs and stakeholders to design commercially viable compensation solutions.
- Lead annual market salary survey strategies to provide actionable competitive insights balancing internal equity and market trends.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian pay equity laws and proactivity on pay transparency, guiding HR, Legal, and Talent Acquisition accordingly.
- Oversee compensation program execution, salary planning, bonus accruals, and financial forecasting in collaboration with Finance, HR Technology, and business leaders.
- Lead targeted compensation projects such as job architecture reviews and pay structure updates across assigned portfolios.
- Develop compensation literacy via education sessions for employees, management, and HR professionals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Over 7 years of progressive compensation experience including at least 2-3 years in people leadership, demonstrating success in managing teams and mentoring talent.
- Proven ability to lead complex compensation conversations with senior leaders and HR business partners involving restructuring, incentive plan design, job leveling, and organizational design.
- Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects with strong project management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian pay equity legislation (Federal, Ontario, Quebec) and pay transparency requirements.
- Advanced expertise in total rewards strategy, job evaluation, compensation design, and proficiency with Workday Compensation software, including incentive plan configuration.
- Strong analytical skills with the capacity to produce high-quality work under pressure in dynamic environments.
- High adaptability to ambiguity and changing environments while maintaining sound judgment and rigor.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets for complex financial modeling and established project management methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
Preferred Skills and Credentials
- Experience with Workday Advanced Compensation modules.
- Background in designing and managing sales incentive programs.
- Progress toward or completion of CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or CHRP/CHRL designations.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is CA$110,000 to CA$130,000 annually, subject to candidate qualifications and market factors.
