Position Overview

The Maintenance Worker 1 reports to the Lead of Physical Plant Services or their delegate. This role includes overseeing building and medical-related mechanical systems, addressing reactive work orders, and conducting preventive maintenance on facility equipment. The position allows for independent prioritization and decision-making while aligning with Southern Health-Santé Sud’s mission, values, and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain building and medical equipment systems.
  • Respond promptly to demand work requests and execute corrective actions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to established programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and management.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and organizational standards.

Required Experience and Education

  • At least two years of relevant maintenance experience.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, or air conditioning fields.
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational credential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of mechanical equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with yard care equipment function and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and their objectives.
  • Awareness and application of safe workplace practices and legislation.
  • Knowledge of Fire Codes and Canadian Standards Association regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy under dynamic conditions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional relationship-building skills.
  • Competency in performing relevant calculations.
  • Respect for cultural diversity and confidentiality in all communication formats.
  • For designated bilingual roles, fluency in both official languages is essential.
  • Clean driving record with valid Class 5 license, access to insured vehicle with minimum $1,000,000 liability coverage.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet physical and mental demands of the position.
  • Work under varying temperature conditions, including extremes.
  • Handling of hazardous chemicals as required.
  • Availability for on-call duties including evenings and weekends, with a 20-minute response expectation.
  • Occasional travel to regional facilities.
