Maintenance Operative

Role Overview

Based at our Coventry site, the Maintenance Operative is essential for ensuring the reliable daily functioning, safety, and upkeep of both warehouse and office premises. This role supports uninterrupted business operations by managing the building's infrastructure, equipment, and related systems while proactively addressing maintenance issues. Maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-kept workplace environment for employees and visitors is a priority.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections of the warehouse and office areas to detect maintenance needs or safety risks
• Carry out general repair and maintenance tasks covering plumbing, minor electrical work, carpentry, and decorating
• Maintain and service warehouse equipment as well as fixtures and fittings
• Ensure optimal operation of building systems such as lighting, heating, and ventilation
• Respond promptly to all maintenance requests from staff and management
• Collaborate with external contractors for specialized repairs and servicing
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and perform basic risk assessments as required
• Keep meticulous records of maintenance activities, inspections, and service schedules
• Assist in implementing preventative maintenance programs
• Manage and monitor inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment
• Support office relocations, layout modifications, and minor installations
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of external areas including car parks, walkways, and loading bays
• Identify areas for facility and operational improvements including efficiency and cost-saving opportunities
• Help manage emergency situations such as leaks, power outages, and safety hazards

Qualifications and Skills

• Foundational knowledge in building maintenance disciplines including plumbing, basic electrical work, carpentry, and general repairs
• Competent in diagnosing and resolving maintenance concerns effectively
• Strong understanding of health and safety standards and practices
• Hands-on approach with enhanced problem-solving abilities
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage time efficiently
• Effective communication skills for interaction with colleagues, contractors, and management
• Capability to work independently with minimal oversight
• Basic organizational and record-keeping skills
• Physically fit to perform manual duties including lifting, equipment handling, and working at heights when necessary
• Keen attention to detail and proactive in identifying issues before escalation
• Basic IT proficiency for tasks such as logging maintenance jobs, email communication, and simple reporting
• Collaborative mindset embodying a team player attitude

Additional Details

Location: Coventry
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Work Arrangement: This role requires onsite presence and is not eligible for remote or flexible working options.
Reporting To: Health and Safety Manager
