Role Overview
The Mailroom Officer plays a vital role in efficiently managing mail services, including sorting and distributing post to service users. The position entails manual handling of packages and boxes, pushing loaded trolleys, and remaining on feet for most of the workday. It also requires occasional coverage as a courier driver traveling across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to specific procedures for incoming and outgoing mail handling.
- Manage physical tasks involving handling diverse packages and pushing trolleys.
- Collaborate closely with the mailroom team and provide backup support for courier driving duties as needed.
- Deliver high-quality customer service to meet critical time-sensitive service needs.
- Travel borough-wide using a manual transmission van (e.g., Vivaro size) when acting as courier.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a busy courier or mailroom environment or the aptitude to quickly learn required tasks.
- Preferably experience within the public sector or a comparable setting.
- Familiarity with the Royal Mail Online Business Account (OBA) system.
- Possession of a full driving license class suitable for manual transmission transit-size vehicles (without rear-view mirrors).
- Experience using mailroom machinery or readiness to promptly acquire these skills.
