About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Mail Courier to ensure the prompt and accurate delivery of US mail, internal mail pouches, and parcels across on-campus and off-campus locations. The role involves sorting various types of correspondence into delivery vehicles for timely distribution, handling mail returns, operating mailing machines, and assisting with warehouse order fulfillment tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Retrieve mail flats and bins from postal facilities, securely load and off-load mail bins, and organize them efficiently in the mailroom.
  • Operate straight trucks (GVW 18,000) and cargo vans safely between campus, off-site warehouses, and other locations, adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local driving regulations.
  • Perform detailed pick-up and delivery of outgoing US mail, intra-office mail, pouches, and parcels at multiple sites.
  • Engage professionally with customers at all levels, from Executive Management to Support Staff, providing timely and efficient service.
  • Organize and stage mail by clustering envelopes according to mail codes, attaching necessary paperwork or bundling as appropriate.
  • Manage on-campus mail delivery through stacking and transporting mail on delivery carts to internal recipients.
  • Assist in off-loading mail and packages at specified locations and perform floor-by-floor mail delivery when covering for colleagues.
  • Support warehouse operations by receiving, storing, wrapping, fulfilling orders, and processing paperwork using handheld devices.
  • Sort outgoing mail by cost center numbers following pre-sort and flat envelope protocols and complete STAT requests as directed.
  • Prioritize deliveries and pickups independently in the absence of supervision to align with campus and patient care priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Provide a standard driving record abstract as part of the application process.
  • Experience of 1 to 3 years in supply chain, shipping, receiving, or related service roles.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of commercial vehicle driving experience, including vans and non-CDL/CDL trucks.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong ability to read and follow written instructions clearly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships across various organizational levels.
  • Competent in basic mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Customer service oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Curious and motivated to learn operational systems and relationships.
  • Familiarity with material management software tools and adherence to organizational codes of conduct and policies.
  • Exercise good judgment and work cooperatively to avoid conflicts, adhering to grievance resolution processes.
  • Capable of organizing workload to meet deadlines for timely mail and supply delivery.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles for up to an 8-hour shift and comply with all relevant traffic laws.
  • Regularly load and unload packages and mail, sometimes lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Visual acuity necessary for distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and close focus tasks.
  • Operate USPS mailing equipment as required.
  • Work in environments exposed to moderate noise, traffic, chemicals, biohazards, and crowds, such as healthcare campuses and multi-specialty off-site locations.
