Machine Operator / EDM Machinist

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated EDM Machinist responsible for operating EDM Wire Cut and EDM Spark Erosion machines to produce precision engineering components including dies, jigs, fixtures, and other parts. The ideal candidate will competently interpret engineering drawings, set up machines, and ensure dimensional and surface finish quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate EDM Wire Cut and Spark Erosion equipment to meet production needs.
• Interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions and tolerances, along with work instructions.
• Set up machines by job loading, alignment, and proper positioning of components.
• Choose machine parameters suitable to material types, thickness, and precision requirements.
• Perform wire threading, flushing, offset adjustments, and machining processes.
• Use measuring tools such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Bore Gauge, and Dial Gauge to verify dimensional and profile accuracy during and post-machining.
• Diagnose machine issues like wire breakage, aberrant sparks, flushing problems, and resolve through parameter adjustment.
• Maintain production schedules to ensure timely job completion.
• Keep detailed records including job identifications, inspections, production data, and machine logs.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, Tool Room, and Maintenance teams.
• Clean and perform routine maintenance at the operator level on machines.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols, use required personal protective equipment, and uphold 5S workplace standards.
• Work towards minimizing waste of materials, electrode/wire consumption, machine downtime, and product rejections.
• Promptly report machine failures, quality concerns, and material shortages to supervisors.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge in operating EDM Wire Cut and Spark Erosion machines.
• Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and dimensional standards is beneficial.
• Understanding of common measuring instruments used in machining.
• Knowledge of machining offsets and parameter settings.
• Skill to detect machining flaws and quality-related issues.
• Basic computer literacy to maintain production records.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively within team environments.

Education and Experience

• Completed ITI or Diploma in Tool & Die Making, Fitting, Machinist, Mechanical, or related technical disciplines.
• Fresh candidates with relevant technical background will be considered.
• Preference for candidates with 1 to 5 years of experience operating EDM Wire Cut or Spark Erosion machines.

Work Environment and Conditions

• Full-time role in a manufacturing production setting.
• Six working days per week as scheduled by the company.
• Eight-hour shifts with possible overtime or shift variations depending on production demands.
• Mandatory use of personal protective equipment and following strict safety procedures.

Reporting

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor or Production Manager.
