Job Overview

The Logistics Planner is responsible for managing the comprehensive flow of imported grains from the arrival of vessels to final delivery. This includes overseeing the discharge plan, assigning grain quantities across silos and flat storage facilities, and coordinating the scheduling of loading points to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations while maximizing safety and storage utilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop discharge plans for grain vessels, considering estimated arrival times, cargo volumes, berth availability, and storage capacities.
  • Advise on the optimal sequence for vessel discharge, analyzing cost and storage implications, with final approval granted by senior management.
  • Collaborate closely with terminal operations to reduce vessel berth time and minimize demurrage fees.
  • Allocate incoming grains efficiently among silos and flat storage units to maximize usage and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Maintain up-to-date stock records by silo, location, lot, and stock age to facilitate accurate inventory management.
  • Implement stock rotation strategies (first-in-first-out) and coordinate grain transfers to preserve quality and reduce losses.
  • Schedule loading operations to align with station demand, trucking availability, and storage inventory.
  • Optimize loading processes to increase throughput and reduce waiting times for transportation.
  • Strategize barley deliveries to stations to fulfill demand and maintain target inventories at minimal total cost.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the cost-efficiency of the logistics chain encompassing vessel handling, storage, shifting, and transport.
  • Generate regular reports on vessel schedules, discharge progress, storage and loading utilization, and station stock levels, ensuring data integrity within ERP systems.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance discharge rates, storage efficiency, and overall delivery costs.
