Role Overview
We are currently looking for a dedicated and energetic Loading Bay Operative to join the shipping department focused on goods dispatched. The role involves physically selecting, packing, and readying hire furniture, utilizing both software and hard copy records to accurately document outgoing stock and verify product condition before collection. The workload includes a variety of items from glamorous sofas for fashion shoots to large sets of eclectic furniture and lighting for film productions.
This position primarily handles small item returns but requires flexibility to assist with returns and quality control departments as needed. The role is physically demanding and suited to someone organized, motivated, and capable of handling unconventional items that may not fit standard packaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Physically collect, pack, and prepare furniture, lighting, and props for dispatch.
- Employ initiative and ensure timely and efficient preparation of items.
- Accurately handle hire orders using paperwork and hire software.
- Monitor stock levels and condition, reporting any concerns to the loss & damage team.
- Maintain brand consistency by using correct packaging methods.
- Rotate between dispatch and returns departments based on needs.
- Carry out cleaning and basic maintenance, including testing electrics with training provided.
- Support other teams with tasks such as re-displaying items, administrative duties, showroom and warehouse upkeep, and general assistance.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe workplace.
Candidate Requirements
- A hands-on, proactive individual with a passion for practical roles.
- Physically fit to lift and move furniture, operate trolleys, crates, and boxes, and capable of bending, kneeling, and standing for long durations.
- Highly organized and methodical with great attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
- Ability to work independently while responding effectively to managerial guidance.
- Interest in handling unique and interesting products.
- A positive, motivated demeanor with a strong work ethic and team spirit.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Eligible to work in the UK with verifiable references.
- Previous experience in furniture delivery/removal, antiques/auctions, or events/hospitality sectors is advantageous.
