Role Description

The full-time, on-site Librarian position at The Central School involves the comprehensive management and organization of library resources, covering both printed and digital materials, to ensure all learners and staff have easy and equitable access. The daily duties consist of cataloging, maintaining, and tracking materials, managing circulation processes, and overseeing the library space to provide a secure, quiet, and welcoming environment.

The Librarian will actively support teaching and learning by conducting library instruction, guiding students in honing their information literacy and research skills, and collaborating closely with educators to align library resources with the school curriculum. Responsibilities also include developing library policies, fostering a culture of reading via displays and events, and skillful use of library technologies and metadata standards to streamline resource management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Solid foundation in Library Science, including user assistance and reference services.
• Experience in managing library functions such as cataloging, classification, circulation, and collection development.
• Familiarity with metadata standards and systems that aid in organizing and retrieving information efficiently.
• Capability to deliver engaging library instruction and information literacy sessions tailored to learners and staff.
• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Studies, or closely related disciplines; having professional library certification is beneficial.
• Proficiency in utilizing library management software and handling digital resources like e-books and online databases.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills with a collaborative mindset towards working with educators and administrators.
