Job description
About the Role and Team
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead and influence the future of our Integrations team in Berlin. This team is responsible for the platform linking Nelly to customer practice management systems (PMS), enabling other product teams to deploy seamless, automated workflows into dental practices without handling PMS complexities directly.
About the Integrations Team
The Integrations team serves as the critical link connecting Nelly with external systems. Our technology spans direct communication with on-premise systems and their databases, through modern API connections, to cloud platforms enhanced with AI-driven features that increase integration reliability and intelligence.
This involves supporting legacy protocols, engaging directly with databases, and, if necessary, automating PMS user interfaces like a human operator. All is managed via a resilient, observable transaction engine that other Nelly product teams rely on without managing the underlying PMS specifics.
This area represents some of the most technically challenging and commercially vital engineering efforts at Nelly, as every transaction impacts revenue. We are a small, experienced team overseeing the entire chain from client software deployed at practices to architectural decisions shaping broader engineering efforts.
About Nelly
Nelly is developing an AI-powered Financial Operating System for European healthcare, addressing critical challenges faced by patients and healthcare providers. Our all-in-one platform automates and streamlines administrative tasks from patient care to billing and next-gen payments, alleviating the pressure from Europe's shortage of medical professionals.
Backed by over €50 million in Series B funding, we are dedicated to innovation and fast-paced growth, fostering an environment where exceptional talent helps push the company forward. AI is integrated into our daily work, and we expect everyone to embrace and contribute to this approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the principal technical expert for the Integrations team and a trusted advisor for other teams.
- Lead the architecture and evolution of the Integrations platform, from client software at practices to backend transaction engines.
- Implement and maintain connections between various practice management systems and Nelly’s AWS-hosted backend, managing infrastructure through code.
- Rapidly deliver features from concept to production with customer-facing impact within days.
- Define and steer mid- and long-term technical strategies, setting roadmaps, patterns, and investments to scale product vision alongside company growth.
- Enhance engineering practices and promote effective use of AI tools within the team.
- Build and deploy AI-driven features within the integration platform itself, such as intelligent matching, anomaly detection, and automated triage mechanisms.
- Collaborate closely across engineering teams and with non-technical stakeholders, translating technical decisions in accessible terms.
- Mentor engineers and contribute as a technical thought partner across multiple teams.
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience as a software engineer with proven leadership in architecture, mentorship, and cross-team initiatives.
- Solid foundation in computer science and the ability to think about systems holistically.
- Expertise in data and API modeling.
- Familiarity with comprehensive software development life cycle best practices.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, adept at interacting with both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Quick learner of new programming languages and technologies with confidence in adapting to new stacks.
- Experience using and promoting AI tools to boost team productivity and engineering quality.
- Comfort operating in complex, cross-functional environments involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Advantageous Experience
- Hands-on work across the full technology stack: from device-level and database integrations to API and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with AWS services, security best practices, and Windows Native APIs.
- Managing and supporting deployment across diverse customer environments, including various on-premise setups.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German is a strong plus.
Benefits and Work Culture
- Collaborate with exceptionally talented colleagues on challenging and meaningful problems within a supportive team.
- Accelerated personal growth opportunities with ownership and impactful responsibilities from the outset.
- Annual learning and development budget coupled with coaching and continuous feedback.
- Participation in building a pioneering financial operating system for European healthcare with integrated AI across all functions.

- Flexible working hours, hybrid work arrangements, and up to four weeks of workation.
- Dog-friendly office environment.
